What We Do
Lending a Helping Hand
Turtle Island Charity is an indigenous-led organization that is focused on improving mental health and education in indigenous youth. Our goal is to give our youth the tools they need to have success in their lives, and in their communities.

“Turtle Island” is what many indigenous people call the continent of North America. It comes from indigenous history and mythlore of a turtle being the center of creation. The arctic island represents the head of the turtle, Alaska and Labrador represent the front legs, Baja California and Florida represent the back legs, Mexico represents the tail, and the rest of North America represents the back/shell.

How We Help
Paving the Way to a Better Tomorrow
Mental Health
“Intergenerational Trauma” describes how trauma from one generation is passed onto the next generation. Several generations of indigenous children were harmed and traumatized by the Residential School system. Turtle Island Charity recognizes that this has been one of the biggest barriers to indigenous success. By improving mental health; we want to be able to give people the tools to create success in their own lives.
Education
Education plays a very important role in personal, and communal success. Our program is designed to remove barriers that currently bar many indigenous people from completing secondary and post-secondary education. We provide opportunities and experiences that will increase enrollment in education, and success in education.
Calls to Action
A large influence to our mission comes from the Calls to Action outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. We recognize the damage caused by the Residential School system, and we believe that healing and success starts with reconciliation.
